What is PADD?

“Presbyterian Agency for the Developmentally Disabled, Inc”. A mission founded by the Presbytery of New Harmony. Chartered as a subunit of PCUSA as a nonprofit 501c3 in 2000. Maintains close link with Presbytery and its congregations. Directed by a volunteer Board of Trustees: currently 9 members. PADD is a Qualified Provider for SCDDSN.

What is PADD’s Mission?

To provide the highest quality of life and the greatest possible level of independence for each resident within the context of a community-based residential facility.

Who does PADD serve?

PADD serves individuals who have an intellectual or related disability. Commonly abbreviated ID/RD.

How does PADD implement its mission?

  1. Acquires and manages homes. 
  2. Creates and coordinates programs and services for residents. 
  3. Maintains standards and compliance with all state and federal rules and regulations. 
  4. Secures funding. 
  5. Builds community awareness. 

How many homes does PADD operate?

Currently three homes in Florence. One home is a 6-bed CRCF located next to Presbyterian Community. Second is a four-bed CTH II located on Rutledge. These homes are for women. The third home is a four-bed CTH II for men. 

Who takes care of the residents?

The staff is led by a Licensed Administrator/Executive Director. Staff includes an  Activity Director, Residential Counselors who provide direct care for the residents, and a nurse. PADD provides 24/7 awake coverage. 

What activities do the residents engage in?

During the day, and depending on ability and personal choice, residents volunteer at various locations in the community or attend a structured day program. Residents also go shopping, go out for meals, take field trips, attend worship, and go to special events.

Who provides health care?

All residents have their own doctors. Staff transports residents to their appointments under a tightly regulated system, monitors residents’ health, and administers medications as prescribed. An independent nurse conducts regular record checks to ensure compliance and also checks on residents.

Who does transportation?

Each home has a van. Staff are all qualified to transport residents to their daily activities and outside appointments.

What is life like in the home?

Each resident has a private bedroom with internet, cable, and a phone. Common areas are shared. Meals are prepared by staff. Under supervision, residents do household chores and their own laundry. Live as a family unit as much as possible.

What are the admission requirements?

Applicants must have a primary diagnosis of an intellectual or related disability. The group home must be the most appropriate resource currently available for the applicant's placement. Applicants must be 18 years of age prior to admission. 

Applicants must possess basic self-help skills (ADL). Applicants must be free from medical or behavioral problems that place excessive demands on staff or other residents in the home. Applicants must be capable and willing to attend a day activity program or employment outside the home. Applicants must be eligible to receive the Medicaid Residential funding through SCDDSN.
